The Insurance Bureau of Canada says there is a growing trend of three themes when it comes to the top 10 stolen vehicles in Canada.
With more vehicles equipped with technology like keyless entry remotes, IBC notes that electronic auto theft is on the rise across the country and many high end SUVs continue to be stolen for export As well, cases continue to crop up where vehicles are given a false VIN and are sold to the unsuspecting.
The top three most stolen vehicles include the 2018 Honda CR-V which is a four door with all wheel drive. Second is a 2017 Lexus RX 350 and RX450h while the third most stolen is also the Honda CR-V but a year older.
In Alberta the Ford-F-series and Dodge Ram trucks are the most popular vehicles to steal. In Ontario, Lexus and Honda vehicles dominate the list. Some were stolen for export by organized crime while others were used in street racing rings.
In Atlantic Canada, the Chevrolet Silverado is the most stolen vehicle and are typically targeted for export to foreign countries.
