A University of Saskatchewan-led network dedicated to improving health and wellness in Indigenous communities is moving into Station 20 West. USask researcher Caroline Tait and Indigenous Studies professor Simon Lambert lead a new national co-ordinating centre for the nine Network Environments for Indigenous Health Research across Canada. Both the Centre and Saskatchewan Networks will move staff into the Station 20 West site. First Nations and Metis people will lead the research projects and help identify research priorities.
Previously, the University closed the Community Relations and Engagement Office at Station 20 West. A number of faculty and current and former students sent letters to the President, objecting to the closure. Associate Professor with the Department of Community Health and Epidemiology, Dr. Rachel Engler-Stringer said it was a bridge that connects faculty and students with partner organizations. She even went so far a to say that without this work, the university will continue to be inaccessible, unaccountable and oppressive to marginalized communities.
