The Saskatoon Board of Education approved Wahkohtowin as the new name for Confederation Park Community School.
There was a traditional naming ceremony which followed appropriate Cree Culture protocol. Wahkohtowin in Cree means relations/relationships/being related and is often used to describe kinship.
Principal Pete Chief says the name reflects the work being done everyday at the school. Confederation Park is the home of the school’s Cree Language and Culture Program which celebrated it’s 14th anniversary this spring.
The new name Wahkohtowin will be in place in September for the start of the school year.
