Most provinces and Territories in Canada have a licence plate slogan. Since 1998 Saskatchewan plates say “Land of Living Skies”, which is quite fitting. We had no permanent slogan during the previous 38 years and before 1960 it was “Wheat Province”. As far back as I can remember, Alberta’s plate slogan is “Wild Rose Country”. B.C. plates have said “Beautiful British Columbia” since the 60’s. Manitoba plates have said “Friendly Manitoba” since the 70’s when they had “Sunny Manitoba” on top of “100,000 Lakes”. Ontario plates had “Keep it Beautiful” in the 80’s. Since then it’s been “Yours to Discover”. Quebec’s plate slogan has been “Je MeSouviens” (I Remember) since 1978. Before that it was “La Belle Province”. New Brunswick licence plates don’t have a slogan but at one time it was “Picture Province”. Newfoundland and Labrador dabbled with 6 different slogans but haven’t had one since 2001. Nova Scotia’s has been “Canada’s Ocean Playground” since 1972. Our smallest province, PEI, finally settled on “Birthplace of Confederation” in 2013 after changing numerous times. The Northwest Territories plate slogan since 2010 has been “Spectacular” and before that it was “Canada’s Northland” followed by “Explore Canada’s Arctic”. The Yukon’s once said “Land of the Midnight Sun”. It became “Home of the Klondike” in 1971 and now just “The Klondike”. Nunavut has no plate slogan. It used “Explore Canada’s Arctic” up to 2012. Maybe residents of Nunavut, along with New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador should hold a contest to come up with one just like we did here.
