SaskPower will be in touch with small and medium sized businesses over the coming weeks as the Crown Corporation continues its smart meter program. About 20 thousand more meters are being installed in businesses across Saskatchewan. Shawn Schmidt, Vice-President of Distribution and Customer Service says, “More than three-quarters of our largest customers have come to us asking for this technology.” He says many have experience with these meters in other place they do business. SaskPower has installed more than 8,000 commercial and industrial smart meters since 2017. The company says residential meters for homes are not planned until SaskPower identifies a meter that meets their new, more rigorous safety specification.
