Saskatchewan’s first children’s museum is now a reality.
Nutrien Wonderhub is open in Saskatoon’s Mendel Building.
Executive Director Amanda McReynolds Doran says the idea has been brewing for decades and was started by museum founders who put educational toys and tools in a mini-van.
McReynolds Doran believes the concept gained momentum after a small space was set up in Market Mall which drew about 20-thousand visits a year.
She says their big break was being chosen by the City of Saskatoon to be the new tenant of the Mendel Building. The Executive Director feels it’s a perfect location next to Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan and the Prairie Lily while situated across the street from Nutrien Playland.
There was over 3-million dollars in private donations for the museum which boasts 12 permanent exhibits and temporary exhibit space.
McReynolds Doran says the museum got a resounding endorsement from a pre-opening visit by students and community groups.
She says watching the ribbon cutting ceremony in front of the building was emotional and feels lucky to be part of something that’s going to bring families together for generations.
