Saskatoon Media Group announces General Manager Vic Dubois was awarded the Western Association of Broadcasters Broadcast Order of Achievement, for 50 years in broadcasting, last night during a ceremony in Banff, Alberta. Mr. Dubois oversees the running of three radio stations (CJWW, 98 Cool and 92.9 The Bull), and associated internet properties, and was inducted into the Western Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2016.
Mr. Dubois still contributes his on-air talent, which propelled a very successful career, with commentaries on radio entitled Coffee Talk; listeners can also tune into his weekend oldies show, Sunday Sock Hop, on 98 Cool; as well as a weekend show which airs on 600 CJWW, known as Vic’s Country Classics. Mr. Dubois started his career with his first job in 1969 in Smithers, British Columbia. A past president of the WAB, this award is the culmination of a half century of leadership punctuated by a commitment to the community in which Mr. Dubois has made his home with his wife, and City Councillor, Bev Dubois as well as his two children, Patrick and Michèle.
Vic Dubois’ commitment to his family and career is matched by his commitment to the community in which he makes his home. His volunteerism spans decades and organizations and notably, within his own broadcast family. Mr. Dubois was instrumental in creating a federally registered charitable foundation – Secret Santa. This took place in 2000, following the death of Secret Santa founder Denny Carr and to this day the Foundation carries on Denny’s legacy providing food and toy hampers to 800 families with children aged 14 and under at Christmas time.
The WAB represents radio and television stations in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba and is celebrating its 85th Anniversary this year.
