The Rotary Badge Shield Star Award recipients for tonight’s annual dinner have been announced. The Saskatoon Police Service has nominated Walter and Maria Linklater for the Badge Award. The couple began working with the Police Service in 1995 when an Indigenous Relations Consultant position was created. Among other endeavours, the they provided guidance in the direction of the position and were the first Elders to join the Chief’s Advisory Committee. Walter passed away last summer but Maria continues to provide guidance to the SPS.
The Saskatoon Fire Department and the Saskatoon Emergency Management Organization are recognizing the Disaster Management Coordinator with the Canadian Red Cross. DeAnna Down has been supporting evacuations and disaster aid for almost two decades. She is the recipient of the Shield Award.
Medavie Health Services has chosen 7 year old Maddox Babchishin as the recipient of the Star Award. He realized his 1 year old brother Jack had stopped breathing when the 2 of them were in the back of his mother’s car. Maddox was 6 at the time and immediately yelled at his mom to pull over. With the help of bystanders, they were able to get Jack breathing again. The paramedics who responded nominated Maddox for this award.
The Rotary Clubs of Saskatoon in partnership with the SPS, the Fire Department and Medavie Health Services West have an awards dinner annually to recognize the unique contributions from those involved in these services.
