Field choice and rotation are important considerations for growers intending to seed peas or lentils this year.
There are four root rot pathogens—aphanomyces, fusarium, pythium and rhizoctonia.
Aphanomyces is the most aggressive and is an even bigger issue when found in combination with fusarium.
Root rots are more prevalent under wet conditions, but Saskatchewan Pulse Growers (SPG) Agronomy Manager Sherrilyn Phelps says there were still cases in drier areas last year.
Phelps will talk about root rot and kochia during SPG Winter Regional Meetings at the following locations:
Rosetown – Monday, February 4 (Rosetown and District Civic Centre)
Swift Current – Tuesday, February 5 (Stockade Building, Kinetic Exhibition Park)
Assiniboia – Wednesday, February 6 (Prince of Wales Cultural and Recreation Centre)
Regina – Thursday, February 7 (Salon B, Queensbury Convention Centre, Evraz Place)
