SaskPower is tripling its wind capacity over the next three years as part of its goal to reduce emissions by 40-percent by 2030.
President and C-E-O Mike Marsh told the First Nations Power Authority Green Energy Forum in Saskatoon, other measures include buying additional power from Manitoba, adding base load gas and reducing its reliance on coal which the Federal government has ordered to be eliminated by 2029.
Marsh says the company has the potential for longer term carbon capture with storage of its coal fleet.
Marsh also told delegates the company will have to find ways to replace the revenue they are losing as more home owners install solar panels.
Also on the forum’s agenda is the signing of a First Nations Opportunity Agreement between the Power Authority and SaskPower on a 20-megawatt solar project.
