Assistant Fire Chief Wayne Rodger says the substance they investigated at Ronald McDonald House this (thurs) morning, is benign. The evacuation was lifted by 1 p.m.
Just before 10 this morning (Thurs), the Saskatoon Fire Department was called by an employee at Ronald McDonald House about dangerous goods on the premises who described the substance they came across as one they were not familiar with. He says they will have to talk to Ronald McDonald House staff as to the evolution of how this came about in order to determine whether it was a hoax or a mistake.
Rodger says 15 residents, 12 staff members and 4 volunteers were evacuated around 10:30. Rodger says the 15 residents were sent to the hospital while the situation was ongoing. Right now there are 50 adults and 23 children staying at the house and most were already at the hospital at the time.
