The national seniors advocacy group, CanAge says with nearly 200,000 people over the age of 65 in Saskatchewan, the window is closing to get ahead of the curve.
CanAge says there are no clear dementia care strategies—either at the federal or provincial levels. There is an extreme shortage of geriatricians, who have special training in dealing with dementia.
There is also a common misconception that dementia is an “old people’s problem”. Three per cent of dementia cases occur in those under the age of 65.
