Prince Albert, in light of the impact of COVID-19, has suspended implementation of its Plastic Checkout Bag Bylaw. The bylaw, banning use of plastic checkout bags by retail and food service businesses, was to be implemented with fines and enforcement on August 1st.
Mayor Greg Dionne noted in a news release that many stores are offering plastic bags for free as a sanitary measure to reduce the handling of re-usable bags which could potentially help spread COVID-19.
Implementation of fines have been suspended until the State of Emergency is declared over in Saskatchewan.
