The Salvation Army is looking ahead to needs of the future once we can all take a collective “breather” from COVID-19. The organization knows it can’t taking gently used clothing and household items right now because of the pandemic but they believe, with 44% of Canadian households having lost work or seen layoffs and another 18% anticipating it will happen, millions will be struggling with daily living.
The Salvation Army Thrift Store relies on donations of clothing and household goods to provide a place to shop for affordable items. It gives those who are living in difficult financial circumstances to get the essentials, free, using vouchers provided by Salvation Army’s social services. It also generates funds to support the Salvation Army’s programs like food banks and shelters for those experiencing homelessness.
So keep your gently used clothing and household items and when the Salvation Army stores can once again re-open they will welcome the donations ,which the organization says, have a powerful impact.
