It is a day that many, sadly, remember well. Today (tues) marks the 15th anniversary of the Mayerthorpe shooting of four RCMP officers.
Constables Leonide Johnston, Anthony Gordon, Brock Myrol and Peter Schiemann were ambushed and killed on March 3rd, 2005. Constable Myrol was born in Outlook, Saskatchewan and grew up in Alberta with significant family ties in this province. They were investigating a marijuana grow operation and outside of Mayerthorpe, Alberta.
A memorial services is being held in the community this evening, hosted by the Fallen Four Society.
James Roszko was injured in the ambush on the officers at his property and subsequently turned the gun on himself. Two other men connected to the case pled guilty to manslaughter. Shawn Hennessey was parolled in 2015 and Dennis Cheeseman was granted statutory release in 2013.
