What was lacked in quantity was more than made up for in quality.
That would be the story of Thursday as only three U of S basketball players, female and male, were named to Canada West Conference all-star teams.
On the women’s side, Saskatchewan may have finished first with an 18-2 record, but only two members of the U of S team were named to the Canada West “dream teams.”
Then again, what a 1-2 punch Summer Maskiewich and Sabine Dukate were for the Huskies this season!
Maskiewich was selected to the first all-star team as a forward. The fourth year Arts and Science student from Calgary averaged career highs of 17.4 points per game and 9.1 rebounds per contest. Meanwhile, Dukate is on the second all-star squad. The fifth year Latvian guard averaged 14.3 points per game and made 39.3% of her three-point shot attempts.
On the men’s side where fifth year guard J.T. Robinson was the lone Huskie to be named to the all-star teams, slotting in on the second team. Robinson was seventh in scoring in Canada West, averaging 18.6 points per game.
Following are the news releases from the Huskies and Canada West Conference…

Robinson named Canada West Second Team All-Star
Huskie Athletics
EDMONTON – The conference’s brightest stars from the 2019-20 season were announced Thursday, as the Canada West men’s basketball all-stars and all-rookies were acknowledged. In his fifth-and-final year of eligibility, University of Saskatchewan Huskies guard J.T. Robinson earned the first conference all-star nod of his career. Robinson averaged 18.6 points-per-game this season, which was good for seventh in the conference, helping him earn Canada West Second Team All-Star status. The number marked a step forward for the guard, after he averaged 14.3 points-per-game and 14.1 points-per-game in his previous two years, as he excelled in the role as the primary scorer for Saskatchewan in his final season with the program. Robinson joins a lengthy list of Saskatchewan standouts to earn Canada West All-Status, including former teammates of the Vallejo, California, native in Joseph Barker and Lawrence Moore. The guard will attempt to prolong his career in the green and white this weekend in Calgary, as he looks to lead the Huskies to a pair of wins in the Canada West postseason. 13 of the conference’s 17 teams had at least one player honoured, with six of the 13 seeing multiple players acknowledged by CW coaches, who selected the three all-star teams and one all-rookie team. Canada West’s men’s basketball award winners will be unveiled Thursday, February 27 at 1 p.m. MST. Among the players named first team all-stars were Alberta’s Ivan Ikomey, UBC’s Jadon Cohee, and Calgary’s Brett Layton. The trio lead the top three teams in the conference into the quarter-finals, with Alberta (No. 1 seed) and Calgary (No. 2 seed) set to host the quarter-final/semifinal weekend.
