Of 20 North American jurisdictions surveyed, Saskatchewan ranks 13th in terms of policies affecting oil and gas investment. The Fraser Institute survey shows Texas in the number one spot and Alberta coming in at number 16. Our showing makes Saskatchewan the most attractive province in Canada. Newfoundland and Labrador is also ahead of Alberta with a ranking of 15. Senior Policy Analyst Ashley Stedman says, “Canada’s onerous and uncertain regulations, along with our dearth of pipeline capacity, have created a competitiveness chasm between Canada and the United States, particularly between Alberta and Texas.” Texas is seen as more than two and a half times as attractive as Alberta.
