Today is the 50th Anniversary of TCU Place, formerly known as Centennial Auditorium. The building opened on April 1st, 1968. It became TCU Place in 2006.
Among the “firsts” that year: the first time the U of S held its convocation at Centennial Auditorium; the first rock act was Britain’s Troggs; the first country show was the Colonel Tim McCoy Show; and 1968 as an election year mean that PC Leader Robert Standfield and NDP Leader Tommy Douglas were the first to stage political rallies in the building.
The former Centennial Auditorium was named in honour of Canada’s recently completed centennial celebrations.
