Federal, Provincial, and Territorial Minsters Responsible for Social Services, and Indigenous Leaders have all gathered at Saskatoon’s Bessborough Hotel today. It is a second day of meetings. The Assembly of First Nations is calling for action on homelessness, poverty reduction, and First Nations control of First Nations child and family services. National Chief Perry Bellegarde made the demand during the meeting in Saskatoon. The AFN is especially concerned that Bill C-92 gets passed before the end of this session of Parliament. The bill concerns First Nations, Inuit and Metis children, youth and families. It focuses on jurisdiction over child welfare. Bellegarde is urging provinces and territories to support the bill.
