The R.M. of Corman Park has implemented a full fire ban. It was yesterday afternoon (Tues) that a brush fire began south of Saskatoon in the R.M. of Corman Park which took around 7 hours to get under control. The Ministry of Environment even brought in a water bomber aircraft to help out.
The full fire ban means no open flame fires. All outdoor fires presently burning need to be extinguished and the lighting of any other outdoor fires is prohibited. That includes fire pits, burning barrels, controlled burns and fireworks. The exceptions are internal household fire places and gas fueled equipment such as propane barbecues or fire pits. The fire ban remains until further notice.
Violating the fire ban results in a fine, plus a bill for firefighting costs, which run in excess of $900 per hour.
The RM of Laird has also implemented a fire ban, with others expected to follow suit. Check with your local RM office or website for more information.
