A Saskatchewan woman is representing Canada’s Indigenous fashion.
Olivia Saulteaux hails from the White Bear First Nation and currently lives in Regina, working as an apprentice in auto shop. The 21 year old is one of about 50 models selected to be apart of the International Indigenous Fashion Week at the Eiffel Tower.
She’s only been in two fashion shows prior and is excited about the opportunity.
“The more that I’ve been doing this, it makes me more excited as an Indigenous young woman to represent the cool art like the beadwork,” she said. “Everything from earings to necklaces, moccasins and mukluks , it makes me more appreciative of what my culture is capable of.”
Having modeled at Waskimo and at event in October, Saulteaux knows what this is all about.
But she’s also aware this event will give her a chance to better appreciate her culture’s arts and fashion.
“I think after coming back from Paris, like I have appreciation now, but I think it will be different because I got to do it on an international level of fashion.”
Saulteaux will be leaving for Paris on Wednesday, with the show taking place on March 1st.
