Higher costs for airfares and fresh vegetables offset cheaper prices at the pump and pushed up Canada’s annual inflation rate to two per cent in December. Statistics Canada says year-over-year consumer prices picked up their pace in December after inflation was just 1.7 per cent in November.
Saskatchewan and Saskatoon’s inflation rate rose to 1.1 per cent up from 1 per cent provincially and up from 0.9 per cent locally. Regina’s rate is now at 0.9 per cent up from 0.8 per cent. Saskatchewan is tied with Quebec for the second lowest inflation rate in the country.
