In October, it was announced that Batoche will unveil a new plaque featuring Gregory Scofield’s poem titled “The Sewing Circle”.
The plaque is part of Project Bookmark Canada which showcases various poems, short stories and novels with 500 words or less on bookmarks located across Canada.
Laurie Murphy, Executive Director of Project Bookmark Canada says they hope to unveil the new bookmark in Batoche in June on National Indigenous Peoples Day.
Murphy adds they build around 3-4 bookmarks every year.
Project Bookmark Canada is the only national, site-specific literary exhibit in the world.
The bookmark in Batoche will also celebrate the 175th anniversary of the birth of Louis Riel on October 22nd, 1844.
