Veterans Affairs Canada is marking the 100th Anniversary of the Battle of Valenciennes in Saskatoon this afternoon. The public event will commemorate Canada’s last Victoria Cross recipient of the Hundred Days Offensive, Sergeant Hugh Cairns, V.C. The event will take place at the Sergeant Hugh Cairns Monument at Kinsmen Park and will include a wreath laying ceremony, dignitaries, school children as well as 2019 Invictus Games Athlete Michael Richards. Following the ceremony, which begins at one o’clock, there will be an assembly at Hugh Cairns V.C. School. Guests will also be able to visit exhibits featuring displays by Canadian Armed Forces personnel, Veterans, and Veteran Affairs Canada.
