It’s my Parting Shot for my reactions to the headlines in today’s Star-Phoenix Sports Section…
First headline…Jefferson deserves Roughriders’ M-O-P Award. My reaction…as hard as it is for me to disagree with my learned friend Rob Vanstone of the Regina Leader-Post, I will on two of the people he thinks should be the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ nominees for the C-F-L’s individual awards. I agree that place-kicker Brett Lauther is the Green and White’s Top Canadian and best special teams player, that defensive end Willie Jefferson is the Most Outstanding Defensive Player and that Brendan LaBatte is the Riders’ Top offensive lineman. But, I think Lauther should get the Most Outstanding Player nod…not Jefferson as Vanstone contends…and cornerback Nick Marshall should be Top Rookie, not receiver Jordan Williams-Lambert. Pretty much all of Saskatchewan’s skill position players were offensive…and not in a good way! And, yes, I know that the nominees have already been announced!
Next headline…Halifax bid moving yardsticks. Reaction…Keep it coming. It’s about time a 10th Canadian city was added to the C-F-L stable of franchises…especially one in the East to even out the divisions!
Last headline…Born to love the Habs, Actor Jay Baruchel is a lifelong Canadiens’ fan living in the heart of Maple Leaf country. My reaction…Hey, nobody’s perfect…being a fan of Montreal’s hockey team is a cross Jay Baruchel, and all Habs’ fans for that matter, have to bear! Go Jets!!
That’s my Parting Shot, I’m Les Lazaruk…
