As of the end of September, Greater Saskatoon Catholic School enrollment was up by 946 students year over year.
It’s a 5.2 per cent increase with the student population now at 19,025, which the Superintendent of Education says is a larger increase than past years.
In the past 2 years, the division has grown by 1600 students, or an over 9 per cent increase.
Darryl Bazylak explains the division has 50 schools in Saskatoon, Martensville, Warman, Humboldt and Biggar.
There are now 2,391 English as an additional language students in the division as compared to 330 in 2008, which is an over 620 per cent increase.
Bazylak says the province provides mid-year funding to help with enrollment increases.
Also, one of the division’s Saskatoon schools has a new name.
With French immersion being added at St. Peter School last year, the name was changed to Ecole St. Peter School.
