Potential Renewables, also known as Potentia, is going to build a 200 megawatt wind energy facility near Assiniboia. SaskPower says the Crown Corporation has signed a 25 year power agreement with the company. It will produce enough renewable energy for about 90 thousand homes. Minister responsible, Dustin Duncan says, “This new energy project further demonstrated our commitment to renewable energy as part of our comprehensive provincial climate change strategy.” Duncan says, “Despite what the federal government says, our opposition to the federal carbon tax does not mean we don’t believe in climate action.” The facility could be in service as early as 2021. The next competitive process for another wind facility is expected to get underway by mid-2019.
