The Public Health Agency of Canada is raising the alarm about raw chicken including frozen raw breaded chicken. There have been Salmonella outbreaks across Canada linked to such products. The agency says, when not cooked thoroughly, frozen breaded chicken products containing raw chicken pose an increased health risk. The problem is that these products may appear to be pre-cooked and browned, but they are still raw and need to be cooked to an internal temperature of at least 165 degrees Fahrenheit. Whole chicken needs to be cooked to an internal temperature of 180 degrees Fahrenheit. As of Thursday, there have been 419 Laboratory-confirmed cases of Salmonella illness investigated including 13 from Saskatchewan. 86 people have been hospitalized.
