Fall enrollment at the University of Saskatchewan is up three percent.

The registrar says 21,318 students were signed up for Wednesday’s first day of classes.

International and Indigenous enrollment are also on the rise.

There were 2,368 international students from 107 different countries, an increase of close to 6-percent.

Meanwhile, the 2,672 First Nations students’ represented a jump of just over 11-percent.

Assistant vice-provost of strategic enrollment management Alison Pickrell believed the international students close the U-of-S because of its reputation as a top research intensive university.

She felt recruitment strategies, student support as well as an active and engaged Indigenous student body were among the factors leading to more First Nations students choosing the U-of-S.

The university expects total enrollment to increase to 28-thousand by the end of June 2019 and has an annual goal of 28-thousand by 2025.
