Summer storms across the prairies have caused more than $200 million in insured damage so far this year. That’s according to Catastrophic Indices and Quantification Incorporated. Severe thunderstorms and large hail rolled through Alberta and Saskatchewan in mid-July, causing more than $30 million in insured damage to homes, businesses and vehicles. A mid-June storm that slammed into Saskatchewan and Manitoba caused $90 million in insured damage. There were other storms in August that hit Manitoba and Alberta causing another $80 million in damage. Because of advanced technologies in newer vehicles insurers say repair costs exacerbate the costs of severe weather.
