Hunters are being asked to take extra precautions to make sure they don’t start fires as hunting season gets underway. The Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation and the Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association say the extremely dry conditions in several areas of the province raise the potential risk for fires to start from hunters’ vehicles. High winds also create the potential for uncontrolled wild fires. Hunters are advised to carry a fire extinguisher, get permission from land-owners before going on their property, avoid unnecessary idling, and stay on existing trails and roads.
