The multinational mining company BHP is considering potash in its future, with their first investment being the Jansen Lake mine being built in Saskatchewan.
The final decision hasn’t been made yet as to whether the mine will make it past the building stage, but the company’s Chief Financial Officer, Peter Beaven, says they are looking to the future and the population is growing.
On a live webcast from Australia, Beaven explains there is still the same amount of land, and in fact with climate change, there may be less, so we have got to get the most out of the land we can.
That means fertilizer, and that’s where potash mining comes in.
The work to finish the Jansen Lake mine is about 80 per cent complete.
