Students at Saskatchewan Polytechnic campuses in Saskatoon, Prince Albert and Moose Jaw can now access their school’s gyms and fitness centres once again.
The school as a result of a recommendation made by its wellness steering committee has decided to re-open the gyms and fitness centres on a temporary basis.
Terence Carswell, Associate Vice-President of Human Resources at Saskatchewan Polytechnic, says the school has acknowledged that – based on recommendations from the steering committee – having physical fitness as part of the overall wellness strategy is important and that the gyms will be open on what is being called a “short term” basis. Carswell says having further discussions with the wellness steering committee will determine what happens moving forward. As it stands right now Carswell says the competitive sports teams will remain grounded and that the seven staff members laid-off due to the sports teams being axed will not return.
Gyms and fitness centres at the Saskatoon, Prince Albert and Moose Jaw campuses re-opened August 8th after being closed since early June.
