A conference on cutting-edge synchrotron science is in Saskatoon this week with over 300 delegates from 24 countries. The Canadian Light Source synchrotron is the reason they are all here, and although the facility is down for repairs right now, the chair of the event says it’s disappointing, but it won’t interfere with the conference. Stephen Urquhart says it would have been nice to have the synchrotron working, but it isn’t necessary. Some of the presentations for the X-ray microscopy conference are imaging the brain, biology in 2 and 3 dimensions, studying plant materials for agriculture, and fuel cell membranes for electric cars. Urquhart says we are doing good things at the Canadian Light Source and by hosting this event, we have the chance to highlight the work done here on an international scale.
