The mercury just kept rising over the weekend in Saskatchewan and more than a dozen Saskatchewan communities broke heat records Friday. Regina topped 36.4 Celsius, beating a record set August 10th, 1978, while Saskatoon climbed to 38.2 Celsius to beat a record set in 1984. Swift Current, meanwhile, set a new record of 40 degrees Celsius. And Saturday, while heavy smoke from BC and Alberta wildfires blanketed central and northern Saskatchewan, it was a scorcher in the south. Moose Jaw set a new record for August 11th by reaching 42.3 degrees Saturday which also made Moose Jaw the hottest spot in Canada Saturday. Their old weather record for that date was 37.8 degrees Celsius set in 1897. Other areas including Assiniboia, Broadview and Val Marie all broke their day time high records for August 11th as well.
