It’s been 100 years since the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada was established in Saskatoon. The centennial is being marked by the general assembly of clergy and faithful in the Bridge City. The four day event called “Extraordinary Sobor” begins today (Thurs) with discussions surrounding how the church found its roots and grew from its early days in Saskatoon. There are also tours of area churches and a visit to the Eaton Internment Camp. The site at the Railway Museum is where Ukrainians were taken as prisoners of war from 1914-to-1920. There are several social gatherings including the grand banquet Saturday where about 300 faithful are expected to celebrate their culture.
