Veteran Canadian C-F-L running back Jerome Messam (pictured) is in football limbo.
A terse, two-line news release from the Saskatchewan Roughriders said the C-F-L team has, “released Jerome Messam after he has been criminally charged following an incident in November, 2016.” The 33-year-old was charged with voyeurism…something the C-F-L confirmed in a statement. The league said it will not register a contract for Messam should any team attempt to sign him. Both the Roughriders and C-F-L said they will not have further comment as the matter is now before the court.
Messam is the Green and White’s leading rusher this season with 205 yards on 52 carries. It was the Toronto product’s second tour of duty with the Riders. Messam rejoined Saskatchewan as a free agent this off-season after spending parts of three campaigns with Calgary. Messam was with the Stampeders at the time of the alleged incident. In his ninth C-F-L campaign, Messam has gained almost 5,700 yards along the ground with 34 touchdowns.
