Onion Lake
Onion Lake RCMP, responding to a complaint of a suspicious man approaching vehicles, ended up arresting 20 year old Michael Hill who had been reported as unlawfully at large from a low security provincial corrections work-camp.
But it wasn’t quite as simple as it sounds. The call about a suspicious male came in around 1 p.m. on Monday from a grid road outside of Onion Lake. Onion Lake RCMP say they tracked down a man, by a truck, that had been reported stolen. When officers approached the man, he took off into the bush.
So they called in Turtleford RCMP and Police Dog Services to help out. It took a couple of hours but the suspect was tracked down and Michael Hill is reported to have suffered minor injuries from a dog bite sustained in his apprehension. In addition to being unlawfully at large, Hill is now also charged with driving while prohibited and possession of property obtained by crime over 5-thousand-dollars.
La Ronge
The RCMP Crime Reduction Team made their first foray into the La Ronge area last week which is why residents in the region may have noticed the increased police presence .
Extra officers were stationed at the Elks Fair on the weekend and numerous traffic stops were executed. More than 400 people would have interacted with members of the CRT and that included an estimated 200 to 250 vehicles which were pulled over during a check stop last Friday. There were also 57 general traffic stops.
In total there was one driving suspension, two criminal code driving charges, 14 summary offence tickets issued – which relate to workplace safety. 14 Traffic Safety tickets and 25 warrant offences handed out. This was in addition to a couple of Liquor Act related incidents at the fair on the weekend.
