I was reminded of what happens in the summer in this city when I happened to be driving around Saskatoon during the middle of the day yesterday. I joke about how our four seasons are almost winter, winter, still winter, and construction. Well, we are smack dab in the middle of that last one. If anyone stopped me to ask for directions to a certain place my tongue-in-cheek answer would be that you can’t get there from here. Our winters are long and shorten the lifespan of our roads and then repairs and maintenance have to be made during our all too short summers. This makes for road closures everywhere you turn it seems but you can’t blame anyone because the work has to be done. It’s a vicious cycle because we want to have visitors to Saskatoon have the most pleasant experience we can give them. Taking an hour to get somewhere in bumper to bumper single-lane traffic is not a pleasant experience. Neither is a confusing array of blocked roads and detour signs. Verbal directions that normally are correct don’t help unless the person giving directions knows where all the construction is, and good luck with finding such a person. And I doubt whether your GPS can stay up to date on things either. The best bet is to stay tuned to this radio station as we try our best to keep you updated as far as is humanly possible. Notice I had the word human in there and nothing involving humans is ever perfect. Enjoy the weekend and stay patient.
