The new event is a major fundraiser for STARS Air Ambulance and will be held on Tuesday evening (July 17) at Ag in Motion.
Field of STARS features a dinner, auction and outdoor concert by Canadian country music star Brett Kissel.
The fundraiser is based on a long- running event put on by the petroleum industry for decades in Calgary.
The difference is that Field of STARS is designed specifically for the agricultural community.
“We wanted this to be fun and casual,” says Ben Voss, chair of the volunteer organizing committee. “We wanted it to be what the ag community enjoys. This is not a black tie gala.”
There will be a silent auction and a live bidding auction.
“Sixteen items, which are high value groupings of farm inputs and machinery. Things that farmers need that have been generously donated by a large number of suppliers.”
Farmers and others rural residents are strong STARS supporters.
“STARS is a life-saving service that all Prairie farmers rely on to be there for them should they ever need it,” says Voss.
All 1,200 tickets went quickly for the sold-out event. He anticipates Field of STARS will be bigger and better next year.
The provincial government provides approximately 50 percent of the funds needed to operate STARS in Saskatchewan. The remaining $10.5 million is raised annually by the STARS Foundation through a home lottery and many other community and individual donations.
