Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation leadership is calling for more information on recent dog attacks after a woman was seriously injured in an incident with a dog.
Pelican Narrows RCMP responded to a report of a woman who was injured by dogs on McKay Street in Pelican Narrows on Monday around 11 am. The woman was transported to the health clinic by RCMP with injuries described as life-threatening.
When officers returned to the scene they located three dogs that were believed to be part of the incident. The three dogs were then put down by officers in the interest of public safety.
The incident lead PBCN to call a meeting the same day where leaders raised concerns regarding recent dog attacks and a potential link between situations. Leadership requested that more information be shared as to what measures have been taken and how many complaints have been received in Pelican Narrows.
RCMP has since shared that Monday’s attack is the second dog-related injury recently reported to Pelican Narrows RCMP.
The previous incident happened around 1:30 pm on October 31. Pelican Narrows RCMP responded to the report of a person who had been injured by a dog at the medical clinic. Officers found the dog related to the October 31 incident. The dog was put down by the owner after discussions with police.
RCMP also say the two incidents are separate and did not involve the same owners or same dogs.
Pelican Narrows RCMP continue to investigate the incident.
