Crime Stoppers is no longer accepting tips at this time following a cybersecurity breach of the service provider it uses called P3.
The provincewide suspension took effect Friday, Oct. 23, after new information emerged suggesting stolen data could potentially identify people who had provided information about criminal activity.
The temporary shutdown affects Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers as well as programs operating in Regina, Saskatoon, Moose Jaw and Prince Albert, and involved over 81,683 Crime Stoppers tips across Saskatchewan, with 11,076 names appearing in the compromised records. Investigators are uncertain if these names are tipsters or names mentioned within the tips, or both.
The Saskatoon Police Service says although it works closely with Crime Stoppers, the platform involved is operated independently of SPS systems.
The SPS adds that members of the public who still want provide information about crime or public safety concerns are encouraged to contact Saskatoon Police directly through our existing reporting channels – by phone at 306-975-8300, online reporting, or by attending to the Service Centre. These methods are not anonymous, but they will ensure information is directed to investigators.
