Canadian Blood Services is seeing a huge outpouring of support in the form of donations following the tragic fire in Wainwright that killed 4 and sent 39 to hospital.
Lisa Beechinor with the CBS says the organization always plans ahead for emergencies like these,
“We work everyday to maintain a resilient, national inventory that can support patients across the country, Because of that, we need donors to donate on a regular basis.”
However, she says Saskatchewan still has over 2000 open appointments that need to be filled.
Beechinor explains that blood donations are not only required immediately after a tragic event, but also in the weeks to come as victims recover in the hospital.
“When you do have an event that occurrs like this, there can be a continue use of blood and blood products which does put a strain on the blood system.”
To book an appointment, head to blood dot ca, call 1888 to donate, or download the give blood app.
