The Saskatoon Fire Department says a house fire near Sask Polytech has been completely extinguished and everyone evacuated safely.

The call came in at 7:54 a.m. Thursday morning from the 100 block of 32nd Street and firefighters could see heavy black smoke when headed to the blaze.

Fire crews advanced multiple hose lines to fight the fire from inside as well as the exterior and then entered the home rescuing the family pets – four dogs and one cat.

Saskatoon Police attended to take eyewitness reports and a fire investigator is on scene to conduct an examination to identify the cause, origin and damage estimate.
