It’s my Parting Shot for Week 20 C-F-L picks from The Fearless Predictor…..
T-F-P made it!! The magical 60 per cent correct plateau has been achieved for the season! Of course, there are still two weeks left to go, or eight games. If I get five of those remaining eight contests correct, I stay there. But, it won’t be easy as some teams will know their fates for the season and may not play all their best people or look ahead to next season should they be eliminated already – hello Ottawa and Hamilton!!
Week 20 starts with a Friday Night Football doubleheader, the first game of which is Toronto at Ottawa. The Argonauts are locked into a second place finish in the East while the RedBlacks are going to give rookie Bryson Barnes the start at quarterback. It won’t help Ottawa that Chad Kelly is returning to play after sitting out a game last week with a throwing hand issue. I’m going with the Argos by more than a touchdown!
The Friday nightcap has Winnipeg in Edmonton. The Bombers are in the driver’s seat to finish third in the West while the Elks are one win or B-C loss away from clinching first in the West. Edmonton gets it done at home and throws another crazy scenario into the chase for the final three places in the West as the Elks prevail by more than a touchdown!
Saturday’s first game is the re-match of the re-match as the Saskatchewan Roughriders welcome Montreal. Should Edmonton beat Winnipeg, as predicted, the door is open for the Riders to step through and take over third place. Here’s the problem – that whole idea of the Alouettes, and by extension the Elks next week, resting top players and giving the Green and White an edge towards ending their second half free fall, is bogus! The fact is Saskatchewan won the Grey Cup last year and nobody in the C-F-L wants a team that knows how to win being back in the post-season! NOBODY!! I expect Montreal and Edmonton to warm up for their respective division final by playing their best and wanting to win and oust the Roughriders! Hence on Saturday, I’ve got the Als squeaking out a win by less than a field goal!!
Lastly on Saturday, it’s B-C at Calgary. Should Edmonton win Friday as predicted, the Lions are in cruise control while the Stampeders desperately need to win their final game – unless the Riders can’t win another game, which is a distinct possibility! More intrigue going into the final weekend as B-C manages to slip past the Stamps by less than a field goal!
Just to let you know the numbers, T-F-P is 44-29 for the season – 60.3 per cent. To finish with at least 60 per cent for the season, a 49-32 mark will do it!!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk…and it turned out nice again!
