This is Vanese Ferguson with Coffee Talk. So I experienced distracted driving this week, but not maybe how you’d think. I wasn’t looking at my cell phone to read a text, I wasn’t even talking on my phone with the Bluetooth in my vehicle, nor eating, nor putting on make up, nor fiddling with radio or temperature controls. I was driving behind another vehicle and it wasn’t until I saw the reaction of other drivers that I realized we’d both done something wrong. It was an intersection with lights and all I could think was that I had blindly followed the vehicle in front of me and it blew a red. I was merely deep in thought literally making a mental list of where I had to go and things I had to accomplish before my day ended. I was headed to the grocery store and as I retraced my route to get back on the freeway, I came across the same intersection and realized we hadn’t gone through a red light because none of the lights were working. It was a four-way stop. So, note to self, be present. Things you need to do will still be there when the car stops. And not wanting to pile on to city planners but holy moly! I was downtown – should have been brief- but after I made my way through the minefield of construction it certainly was not. And I have a hard time believing that College will be anything but a cluster until next construction season.
Distracted driving can catch up even in the simplest ways
