The brand new Broken Glass Collective is performing Tennessee Williams’ The Glass Menagerie in Saskatoon for the first time in almost 50 years.
The show takes place in a memory and follows a mother attempting to plan a future while stuck in the past, a son stuck between family and freedom, and a daughter who is obsessed with glass figurines, all in depression-era St. Louis, Missouri.
This is the Broken Glass Collective’s first show together. The collective is composed of experienced actors, most of whom have worked together prior to The Glass Menagerie on other productions.
Lisa Bayliss is the actor behind Amanda Wingfield, the mother in the play. Bayliss has started acting in Vancouver before moving her career to Saskatoon. She has performed with other groups, including Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan and Regina’s Globe Theatre.
“This is a really great introduction for any young person who’s just starting to get into theatre or is ready to experience a story with a bit more depth.”
A preview of the performance is available on Wednesday night. Shows will then start on Thursday and continue until October 10th. Tickets can be purchased on the Broken Glass Collective website.
