The overpass project has seen the demolition of a previous pair of about 60-year-old Highway 2 over Highway 1 bridges, which were built with a clearance height of 4.5 metres. To safely accommodate construction, the clearance height has been reduced to 4.2 metres with signs warning motorists in advance and the Highway Hotline updated.

In addition to replacing the aging bridges, the project includes the conversion of the former cloverleaf interchange to a modern diamond interchange. The new design improves traffic flow, reduces maintenance requirements and enhances overall safety for motorists travelling through the intersection.

Work remaining on the project includes final paving, fine grading and site restoration. The entire project is targeted to be completed by around mid-October, pending weather. All traffic will then resume to normal operations and the new overpass clearance height of 5.3 metres will take effect.

The Highway 2 over Highway 1 overpass serves as a critical connection for commercial traffic, agricultural producers, commuters and travelers moving through Saskatchewan.
