Keaton Leier 15 years old with Brenda's School of Dance

A local dancer that made it to the big leagues is doing a performance in his home city after over a decade on the road.

Keaton Leier started ballet at the young age of 15. He has since danced with World Winnipeg Ballet School, Houston Ballet, Atlanta Ballet, and now, at age 30, National Ballet Canada.

The dance company is traveling to Saskatoon this weekend for a collaborative show with the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra called ‘At the Ballet.’

Leier recently got the opportunity to choreograph a piece for the show, something he says he’s never done before.

“Not to this level. Definitely not. This is my first time curating something this large.”

He says he wanted to give the Saskatoon audience a variety of the classical and temporary work that the company does, as well as showcase his own creation.

On top of his dance career, Leier also founded Artists Climate Collective, a sustainability-focued organization. He says you might recognize some of those themes in his piece, which is coming to Saskatoon on Saturday, September 19th.
