The Government of Saskatchewan has brought the Heritage Recognition, or the From Many Peoples, Strength, Act into force, creating a permanent framework for recognizing cultural and faith heritage months across the province.

The legislation replaces the previous system that required annual proclamation requests, ensuring recognized heritage months are automatically proclaimed each year.

The Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport has consulted with approximately two dozen cultural and faith groups, with Japanese and Ukrainian Heritage Months already added for September and German, Islamic, Korean, and Hispanic and Latin American Heritage Months expected to follow.

The government says the new framework both celebrates Saskatchewan’s cultural diversity and reinforces a shared provincial identity, while positioning Saskatchewan as the first province to establish a unified legislative framework for multiple heritage recognition months.
